Costumes

Costumes are also a significant detail in a film, they give personality to each character. They help the actors transform into the character to their full potential. They allow for the audience to interpret the change in the character's appearance as the film develops. Costumes don't only help the viewer understand the story better, but also allow the actor get into their character. They help them actually get into character, which can bring the story to become more realistic.

For the costumes that I am using in my film opening I chose specific clothing that would best fit with the characters. Some of the costumes I that I have used so far for my two main characters, Jordyn Miller and Danny Rivers, in my film:

Danny's Basketball uniform- Jersey and basketball shorts and shoes

His basketball uniform obviously allows the viewers to interpret that he is a basketball player. Throughout most of this film he will be wearing this, demonstrating how he is serious about basketball and loves the game.

Jordyn's first outfit- Khaki pants, blouse, sweater on top

Jordyn's outfit shows the viewers how it is not what many people her age wear on a daily basis, she is very studious as she is dressed in more formal attire.

I do believe that costumes should be thought out will because that is how the character will be perceived in the film. As I continue to film, I notice how details, such as costumes, are important and contribute to the idea of the film as a whole.

Props

Props are a very important contribution when it comes to making a film. They add on to the story that is being created and provide details that are significant to the film. Some of the props used will allow the audience to get a better understanding of what the two main characters are mainly about and who they are. They allow them to understand their hobbies, what's important to them, and the kind of person they are.

Some props that I have used in my film so far:

- Basketball: For the male main character in the film, he is a 'popular' basketball player that focuses a lot on the sport and is very important to him.

-Books/notebooks: For the female main character, she is a very studious girl that focuses a lot on school and her future.

-Phones: The phones that both characters use will demonstrate how they are very lonely mentally, through their text messages with their friends.

Continuation of the film

I have been able to continue filming my film opening, getting a couple more seconds in. With all of the footage that I have so far, in total it is about 40-45 seconds worth of film. Everything has been coming out very well so far and although I have come across a couple issues especially with the pandemic still going on there have been a couple of obstacles, but I have been able to overcome them. For example, one major issue that I came across is social distancing in the film, obviously, these public places that I have filmed in have other people there, which is why we had to be very careful not to get too close to anyone when we were at these filming locations.

The scenes so far have been about each character on their own living their normal lives, but something is missing. What is missing is a relationship/connection that they are yet to find with one another by the end of the opening. The opening ends when they first meet, which will leave the audience anxious about what will happen next in the film, only that it ends there.

Shooting

As I have already shot quite a couple scenes for the film opening, I wanted to start editing what I have so far to move forward with the project. Each clip I have for the beginning of the opening consists of 3-5 seconds of each character living their own lives separately, as they have not met yet. These first clips are just to give an idea of what each character is about and the kind of person they are. Further scenes will consist of more interaction until they finally meet which will be at the end of this film opening. I want the audience to be able to interpret why I chose these specific characters and the story that will come along with them. Details are very important in a film, even when they aren't that noticeable. I will continue explaining more of the film and the shooting of it as I film more, so stay tuned for more details!

Some shots I have used:

-long shot

-medium shot

-close up shot

-over the shoulder shot

Costume/Wardrobe

To talk a bit about what my characters will be wearing in the film, I wanted to explain the difference between their style. For the girl in the film, she will be dressed in more of a formal wardrobe. She will be wearing for example a button-up shirt, with a sweater/cardigan over it with khaki-colored pants. Carrying her books, acting very timid/reserved. As for the boy in the film, he will be dressed in sports clothes, such as a baseball jersey as he is a baseball player. Change of wardrobe will happen throughout the film but to get an idea of their different styles I am explaining a couple pieces. Their difference in style contributes to the concept that they are nothing alike in the film, the idea of opposites attract. I will continue to keep covering different areas of the film for all of you to get a good idea of how it will turn out. More updates to come.

The Process

Hello everyone! I finally started filming my film opening and it is going very well. I already have about 20 seconds worth of footage which I still have to revise in case of any mistakes made when filming. I have been able to go outside to film with two friends so far for the opening scene. Due to the circumstances of social distancing, we have obviously been working from afar, but everything is turning out very well actually. Working with the two main characters first gives them a good idea of the filming plan and they can get more comfortable when I record them for this film. I will be filming again by the end of this week hoping to get a couple more seconds in. I am eager to show you all my film!

Filming Schedule

Hey guys! For the days that I film, I am creating a consistent schedule of the days that I am filming. During the week I will film once every 3-4 days after school and Sundays if necessary. I don't want this film to be rushed and done all in one day, I would rather take my time and get it well done. I feel that a schedule is needed so that I am organized with this project instead of being all over the place, not knowing what to do. This will keep me in check with what I have to get done. For the first day, I may film the first 20 seconds and continue from there. There are many critiques and do-overs that have to be done with filming, which is why a good amount of time will be needed. Putting the time and effort into the film will show a positive outcome when I am finally done. Quality over quantity!

Editing Software

As for my editing software, I will be using iMovie. I chose iMovie because I have worked with iMovie before and it has been very easy to work with. I have not really had much experience with editing, but the times that I have I have done pretty well. As editing may be kind of tricky, it may take me a while to get the hang of it which is why I am practicing to get familiar with the software and I am doing pretty good. I want to be as prepared as possible so that when I do start filming, everything will go smoothly, just as planned. I will be filming very soon, but first I want everything to be perfectly planned with not only the editing but also the cast, props, dialogue, and any other details. Stay tuned!

Storyboard

I created a storyboard to demonstrate to you all what my film will be like. It shows the different scenes that will be taking place. Each character will be living their own lives, as I film different shots in different environments until one day they finally meet. The scenes before they meet will demonstrate how different they are from one another and how they live completely different lives. The storyboard allows me to brainstorm ideas and plan it all out on paper so that when it comes to the final piece, I will have everything prepared for the production. Obviously, not every scene is on this storyboard, but it gives a general idea of the outcome. Take a look at the sketch while I continue to plan out!

Everything Filmed!

I have finally finished all the scenes of my film! I am so excited to finally share with you all the work that I have done for the past cou...
